She reported on sports for several of the most prestigious outlets in the United States. The time she worked working at The Washington Post was spent with numerous Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. In 2004, Nichols moved on to ESPN for a period of nine years in which she earned two Emmy Awards and appeared on many of the network's most popular shows, such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. In addition, Nichols was an assistant journalist on the Monday Night Football broadcasts. Then, she switched into CNN Sports as well as Turner. Unguarded: Rachel Nichols hosted her own show on CNN International. A record-breaking 1 billion viewers watched it worldwide. Nichols reported with TNT at the time, reporting on NBA broadcasts, including playoff games, regular season games or teams from the All-Star league. The reporter also reported on golf, baseball, as well as Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. It was the only moment in the award's 42-year history that a woman was selected from the over 200 candidates.
