Inspired by her observations of shadows upon the ground, the artist spent many months experimenting with a method to convey objects in two dimensions onto canvas. The subject instead transforms into a representation of the subject, where the surface transforms into the medium for it's individual interpretation of the subject, particularly in the case of live or perishable objects for example, like humans or fruits. Alexa Meade's style of painting, which is very ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only thing of her art to survive is the photo. Photography and painting are tightly connected to form an unflattering two-dimensional space that is trompe l'oeil. Certain places three dimensions are observed, such as around the eye or on the hair. Sometimes, Meade integrates her painted models into the three-dimensional environment around them, which allows them to interact within the self-created universe. Thereby repealing the boundaries between photography, painting performances and installations.
