She was born into a film family, Hudson seemed to be headed to make waves from a young age. Her mother Goldie Hawn was an actor in film and her father Bill Hudson is comedian. She performed from beginning at a young age. Her parents ensured she received dance lessons, and she took classes at the Santa Monica Playhouse as a young girl. In the year 1996, she received the opportunity to play a character in the TV drama Party of Five. The show was a success and she was admitted to New York University, but Kate Hudson was more interested in pursuing a career in show business rather than earning an academic degree. After acting in minor films and commercials, she was offered the role which would become an important part of her career. The role she was cast in was Penny Lane in the comedy drama film Almost Famous. Though the film didn't do very well at the box office , it was well-received by critics and resulted in Kate an established star in the American film industry.
